The London branch of the Association for Professional Futurists (a global organisation for such professionals, website url: https://apf.org/ ) has been a source of contacts and information for EHFF over the last three or four years. David Somekh attended this day seminar partly to maintain links but also because one of the speakers, Bill Sharpe, we feel is a leading light in the UK futures scene. The agenda for the day is here. Of three presentations that caught our attention, firstly Wendy Shultz’s erudite discussion on visioning is here. Bill Sharpe did an exercise as an illustration of the model he and his colleagues have developed (Third Horizon model). Although there weren’t slides, as he spoke off the cuff and drew on the flip-chart, a short extract from his short book on the subject is here. His colleague Graham Leicester then described ongoing work in Fife in Scotland where they are using the model to help bring about change in local health services. As this project is ongoing work, it’s not possible to publish the material at this stage, but it is an inspiring example of how application of futures tools can be of value in change management.
Finally Tricia Lustig gave an interesting presentation of the Appreciative Enquiry method. Her slides are here.
More information, including interviews with Bill and other colleagues is contained in the blog
